SUMMER 2009: DESCRIPTION Of CLASSES
- ITA 113V* Intensive Elementary Italian in an Immersion Setting (4)
five-week intensive course in Italian taught during the summer in Venice,
Italy, designed for students with a maximum of one semester of previous
study in Italian (111). Covers language and culture. Credit cannot be given
for both ITA 113V and ITA 112.
- ITA 154 Intermediate Italian* (4) Continuation of 113 with emphasis on
speaking, developing students' reading and writing skills and preparing
them for oral and written discussion of literary texts in ITA 212 or
213.
- Music and Art 214: (3) It is a survey of music* in Italian culture, including composers such as Vivaldi, Verdi, Puccini
and others, seen in their cultural contexts. We will have several site
visits throughout Venice. It is approved for fine arts divisional credit
and music major/minor elective credit. (*taught in English, but we will
be studying Italian librettos as well.)
Trips to Florence, Verona, Padua, Florence, Siena, Torcello, Murano and Burano. Excursions are included
in the program cost. In addition to these excursions, organized daily
group outings will introduce students to the culture and serve as
practice of what has been studied (visit to Carlo Goldoni's house; a Parmesan farm in Reggio Emilia and to a vineyard in the Veneto region)
THE COST
If a student takes 4 credits class (113 or 153) will pay $ 4,750.
If a student take 7 credits will be paying $ 6,600
