The French Program
A major international language, French is crucial to the global society of the twenty-first century. The francophone world includes countries in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. French is one of the two official working languages, with English, of many international organizations--the United Nations, NATO, the International Labor Bureau, and the Red Cross, among others--and of the United States’ number one trading partner, Canada. French is an indispensable foreign language for both international businesses based in the U.S. and American companies doing business abroad.
The French program at Wake Forest prepares students for a wide range of careers, both locally and internationally. The Department of Romance Languages offers an undergraduate major and minor in French Studies and a certificate in French for Business. The interdisciplinary curriculum features courses in language, culture, literature, business, and film, offering a wide-ranging perspective of the presence of French in the world today and throughout history.
