How to Apply for Summer School Elsewhere

Go to WIN>Info Central>Forms and Documents>Registrar and read "How to Apply" and "Department Requirements."

Contact the particular department at the school you would like to attend or peruse the school's web site looking for their summer offerings. A good web site is http://www.collegesource.org/

Pre-Approved Courses

Once you have determined what you would like to take, see if the course has been pre-approved at WFU. There is a listing of pre-approved courses on WIN; Info Central; Forms & Documents; Registrar; Summer School Elsewhere Pre-approved Courses or in 110 Reynolda Hall .

If the course has been pre-approved, fill out a Summer School Elsewhere (SSE) application available from the Registrar's Office, 110 Reynolda Hall or on WIN; Info Central; Forms & Documents; Registrar; Summer School Elsewhere Application and return the completed application form to the Registrar's Office.

Courses Requiring Approval

If the course is not pre-approved, obtain a course description by going to http://www.collegesource.org/ If the WFU Department requires a syllabus, contact the particular department of the school you wish to attend and request a syllabus. Syllabi may be hand delivered, emailed to carltosp@wfu.edu or faxed to 336-758-6056. Your name must be referenced on the fax.

Fill out the Summer School Elsewhere (SSE) application, include the course description and/or syllabus and return to Susan Carlton, Registrar's Office, 110 Reynolda Hall.

You will be contacted by email informing you of transfer equivalency.

Transfer courses MAY satisfy major/minor/elective credit in these departments.

  • WFU students must attend an accredited 4-year university.
  • A maximum of 12 hours is allowed to transfer in one summer
  • Of the 120 hours required for graduation, at least sixty must be earned in WFU programs, HOWEVER, ONCE ENROLLED at WFU, a student may subsequently count, at most, THIRTY hours of credit from sources other than WFU.
  • Students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA (including spring grades) before they may attend another school.
  • No student on social or academic probation or suspension from WFU may take coursework at another institution and have that work transferred to WFU for credit.
  • Students must make at least a C (not C-) for the course(s) to transfer.
  • No divisional/major/minor may be taken on a pass/fail basis; any pass/fail must be approved prior to registration.
  • Transfer work does not affect the student's GPA. Courses may not be repeated elsewhere in order to adjust the WFU GPA.
  • No course may receive more value than the value of the WFU course.
  • Even if the course is preapproved, the student must fill out a SSE application before attending another school.
  • The WFU Registrar's Office must be furnished with an official transcript for any course taken elsewhere--even if WFU does not award transfer credit for the course.
