Graduation Information

Special notes about general graduation requirements:

1. You must complete an application for graduation in order for your records to be reviewed for graduation. You will NOT be certified and cannot graduate unless you apply!

2. You may elect to graduate at any time after your requirements are completed. For example, if you qualify for graduation, but wish to raise your grade point average, or wish to complete a second major, you may apply to graduate at a later than "standard" term. Your record "freezes" upon graduation -- i.e., no further work may change your transcript after you have graduated, including grade changes, additional transfer credits, minors, etc.

3. Current distinction levels: Cum Laude-3.4, Magna Cum Laude 3.6, Summa Cum Laude -3.8. WFU does not round GPAs, so you must have at least a 3.4, 3.6 or 3.8 to receive a distinction.

4. Substitution of courses for divisional requirements: As stated in the catalog, "no course requirements may be set aside or replaced by substitutes except through regular procedures already established by the faculty, or through a specific vote of the faculty in regular session." Certain courses in interdisciplinary honors may be substituted with the written approval of the Honors Coordinator and the related department. Contact Barry Maine at extension 5380 or Peggy Barrett at 5383 for approval. Some courses taken in the overseas programs may be approved for divisional credit. The degree evaluation will indicate any substitutions which have been recorded. If you feel other substitutions are permitted, please bring a copy of the permission notification to the Registrar's Office.

5. A student may choose one of the following options: a single major, a double major, one major and one minor, or one major and two minors. In the case of a double major where the majors receive different degrees, the primary degree determines the major. Only one bachelor's degree will be conferred and one diploma awarded.

6. The divisional foreign literature course is a second course in addition to the literature course used in the Basic Requirements.

7. In most cases, a maximum of 42/50 hours in a field of study are allowed within the 112/120 hours required for graduation.

8. No more than 18 hours taken on a pass/fail basis may be counted toward the degree. Only 12 pass-fail hours may be elected during the Jr. and Sr. years, limited to 4 hours per term.

9. No more than 12 of the 112/120 hours required for graduation may be earned from the following courses: EDU 353, all MIL courses, MUS 111-121 and MUS 128-129 (ensemble courses), DCE 128-129 and elective credit from 100 level courses in HES.

10. At least one-half of the courses required for the major must be completed at Wake Forest, except in the case of a combined degree (some majors have more strict limitations).

We remind you that the automated audit is not a contract, it has been developed to be an advisory tool and is provided for convenience. While every effort has been taken to make this audit report as accurate as possible, it is still the student's responsibility to verify the accuracy of the information contained in this report with the proper academic advisor and to follow the degree requirements described in the appropriate copy of the university bulletin.

FERPA Reminder: Students who have placed a written hold on the release of their information should remove it by writing the Registrar's Office prior to graduation. If the hold remains after graduation, the University cannot verify your graduation to future employers, etc.
