Student Right to Privacy & Directory Information Wake Forest University protects the privacy of its students in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). Items listed as "directory information" are generally considered open to public inquiry. Nondirectory information is confidential. In most instances, release of personally identifiable nondirectory information requires written authorization from the student. All other types of release must adhere to the FERPA regulations. What does Wake Forest consider "directory information"?
Wake Forest considers the digitized picture (from the ID card system and observable on specified areas of WIN) to be public only on-campus. Non-campus constituents do not have access to the picture. Students may withhold directory information, except where it is required on-campus. Details are available in the Registrar's Office. Students should be mindful that they should remove any restrictions prior to graduation if they wish the University to be able to verify degree completion for future employment, etc. |
