TRAFFIC APPEAL PROCEDURES AND REGULATIONS

Please read the Traffic Appeal Procedures and Regulations before continuing. By clicking the box labeled "I ACCEPT" below, you are electronically signing the form. You may click the "Police Home" button below to return to the University Police Home Page.


1. If an appellant chooses to appeal a traffic citation, this form must be comepleted and returned to the Department of Parking Management to be forwarded to the Traffic Appeals officer. This appeal should include a detailed description of why the citation should be considered improper or invalid.

2. This appeal form must be submitted to the Department of Parking Management within 7 days of the date which appears on the citation or the appeal will be automatically denied.

3. The Traffic Appeals Officer, a non-partisan University agent with no relation to parking enforcement authorities, will review the written appeal and may as he/she finds appropriate:

   a. Grant the appeal and give relief based on the written information.
   b. Deny the appeal on the basis of the written information.
   c. Grant a hearing to allow the appellant to provide additional evidence. All hearings are at the request of the Traffic Appeals Officer and will only be requested if more information is necessary in order for a decision to be rendered. If a hearing is requested, the appellant must go to the Department of Parking Management and schedule a hearing within 7 days of receipt of notification. Failure to schedule or appear for a hearing will result in the automatic denial of the appeal.
   
4. If an appeal is denied, the appellant must pay the necessary parking fine within 14 days of receipt of notification.

5. If the relief sought on this original appeal is denied by the Parking Appeals Officer, you may appeal further to the Board of Traffic Appeals within 7 days of receipt of disposition notification. The additional Board of Traffic Appeal form is available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Office of Parking Management. In this additional appeal, the appellant must assert why he/she believes that the Traffic Appeals Officer failed to appropriately consider this appeal. The Board of Traffic Appeals will review the additional appeal and the original papers sent from the Traffic Appeals Officer. Based on this information, the board will render a decision. All decisions rendered by the Board of Traffic Appeals should be considered final.

6. If you should have questions regarding this process, contact the Department of Parking Management. The Department of Parking Management is not involved in the review of appeals but can answer all questions related to the appeal process.
