ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of adults in the United States. Much of what is known about the progression of the disease is related to the fluid and solid mechanics of the cardiovascular system. However, much less is known about the mechanics of the devices that are used to treat certain forms of the disease. This talk will focus on vascular stents, vascular grafts, and heart valve replacements, and particularly how they influence the local biomechanics of the cardiovascular system.
