ABSTRACT

One of the unanswered questions in cancer biology is how the decision is made to repair damaged DNA or to kill the cell because the damage is too extreme. One of the keys to this decision lies in how the MutS-homologous proteins respond to DNA damage. Recent modeling studies of the response of MutS to damage induced by the chemotherapeutic cis-platin will be presented. These studies provide the first insights into the molecular origins of this decision.
