Abstract
The discussion follows the development of a laser driven process for
the cladding of thin metal films, with the primary focus of obtaining
adherent bonds between similar and disparate metals. The uniqueness
of metals and the fundamentals of the metallic bond are presented,
with contaminants and oxides posing obstacles to the bonding process.
The selection of a laser driven mechanism for the cold pressure
welding of metals is discussed, with emphasis on testing this process
in air.
