Pseudoscalars usually couple in gauge theories in such a way that they can convert to photons in the presence of magnetic fields. Notably, low-mass pseudoscalars emitted from the supernova SN1987A would have converted to gamma rays in the intervening ma gnetic fields. Therefore, measurements by the Solar Maximum Mission satellite improve limits on the coupling constant.
