Prof. Matthias will report on time-resolved SHG-measurements on polycrystalline samples of Cu, Ag, and Au, with photon energies near the interband transition threshold. The goal was to find out about the dependence on electron temperature of the nonlinear susceptibility. Knowledge about this dependence would allow to distinguish between the electron dynamics near the surface and in the bulk.
