Airport arrival

The Greensboro / Winston-Salem Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) is located 20 miles from Wake Forest University. GSO has 130 flights daily on American, Continental, Delta, United, and USAIR, connecting with all other airlines through major entry airports and hubs. (Most connecting flights are on large jets, but check with your agent whether particular flights--e.g. many United connections from Washington DC-- are using commuter aircraft.)

There will be free transportation from GSO airport to the conference site. Look for the ICDIM96 sign and representatives in the baggage claim area. Unless specific alternative arrangements are made with the organizers, the hours of the free airport transportation service will be from 1:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 14. For arrivals outside those hours, an airport limousine (e.g. Airport Express) may be taken for about $22 per person. A taxi from the GSO airport to Wake Forest is about $35.

Free transportation will not be provided from the other major North Carolina airports in Charlotte and Raleigh (about 100 miles distance), but they have several more airlines and direct international flights, and could be useful entry points if you plan to rent a car. The Smith Reynolds commuter airport in Winston-Salem has 6 flights daily from Charlotte (only). It is 4 miles by taxi from the Wake Forest campus. The personal greeting and free transportation are planned only for the Greensboro (GSO) airport in the hours stated above. Please inform us of your arrival and departure flight times as soon as you know them, so that transportation can be arranged most effectively. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
