WFU student art exhibit to showcase 70 works in varied media
April 3, 2009
Wake Forest University’s Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery will close the season with its annual Wake Forest Student Art Exhibition April 16 through May 18. An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. April 16 in the lobby of the Hanes Gallery. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
The student exhibition will include 70 works in various media, including painting, prints, drawings, sculpture, digital media, photography, video and installation art.
Wake Forest senior honor exhibitions will also be featured in the Mezzanine Gallery. Katie Shuford will exhibit a mixed-media installation April 16 - 21 and Katherine Robinson will show her paintings April 28 - May 5.
During the opening reception, one student from each of the six studio art areas (drawing, digital media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture) will be awarded a $100 cash award. Recipients are selected by Wake Forest art faculty and are judged on creativity and force of content; drive and dedication to the creative process; willingness to go beyond what is expected of them; and in-class leadership qualities and personal integrity.
The awards are funded by Monty King, a local benefactor who annually supports the student art show awards.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
