WFU 'Season of Scandal' concludes with 'King Lear'
March 18, 2009
The Wake Forest University Theatre will conclude its “Season of Scandal” with William Shakespeare’s “King Lear” opening April 3. Evening performances will be at 7:30 p.m. April 3-4 and April 8-11, and a matinee performance will be held at 2 p.m. on April 5. All performances will be held in the MainStage Theatre in Scales Fine Arts Center.
A story of greed, revenge, cruelty and redemption, “King Lear” is considered one of Shakespeare’s most intense and unforgettable tragedies. In the play, the king decides to step down and divide the kingdom among his three daughters who must first tell him how much they love him. When the king’s favorite daughter fails to provide him with the flattering words he expects, he disowns her. Soon after, he realizes life with the remaining two daughters is not the peaceful retirement he anticipated.
The performance, directed by Cindy Gendrich, associate professor of theatre and dance, will feature guest performances by renowned Shakespeare & Company actor Dennis Krausnick as King Lear and Michael Huie, local writer, playwright, actor and Wake Forest graduate, as Gloucester.
Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for senior citizens; and $5 for students. Tickets are available through the Wake Forest Theatre Box Office from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call (336) 758-5295, email WFUTheatreTix@wfu.edu or visit www.wfu.edu/theatre.
