Wake Forest invites community to free holiday events

Each year, Wake Forest University invites the community to attend several free holiday events.
Advent Lessons and Carols, Dec. 2, 11 a.m. Wait Chapel
Traditional Advent Lessons and Carols service featuring music by the Wake Forest Divinity School choir. Part of Worship in Wait series. (336) 758-5121
Lighting of the Quad, Dec. 2, 7 p.m. Hearn Plaza
An inter-faith holiday celebration featuring music, singing, speakers and refreshments. Students decorate the plaza with a live evergreen tree, greenery and lights. (336) 758-4549
Seventh Annual Carols of the Bells Benefit Concert, Dec. 4, 6 p.m. Davis Chapel
Features the Wake Forest Student Handbell Ensemble performing holiday selections, including “God Rest Ye Merry,” “Here Comes Santa Claus” and other favorites. Admission is free, but donations are accepted for Brenner Children’s Hospital. (401) 330-9572
44th Annual Christmas Lovefeast, Dec. 7, 8 p.m. Wait Chapel
Popular event featuring the largest single traditional Moravian lovefeast in North America. Guest speaker will be Linda McKinnish Bridges, associate director of admissions at Wake Forest University. Chaplain Tim Auman will conduct the service. Luminaries will encircle Hearn Plaza. Donations accepted for the Chaplain’s Emergency Fund. (336) 758-5210
Holiday Choral Concert, Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m. Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center
Features holiday musical performances and carol singing by the Wake Forest choral department. Program to include Eric Whitacre’s “Lux Aurumque”; Jeffrey Van’s arrangement of the Mexican carol “El Rorro”; Vivaldi’s “Magnificat”; Rachmaninoff’s “Blazhen muzh” from his “Vespers” and Mendelssohn’s “There Shall a Star from Jacob Come Forth.” (336) 758-5364
