Maya Angelou to direct student poetry performance at Wake Forest University

Maya Angelou, Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University, will direct a student poetry performance April 18.

"World Poetry in Dramatic Performance” will begin at 4 p.m. in Wake Forest’s Brendle Recital Hall in Scales Fine Arts Center.

The event is free and open to the public.  

The Wake Forest students who will perform are enrolled in a humanities course taught by Angelou.  The course covers ancient and contemporary poetry translated into English.   Japanese, African-American, Irish, Spanish, German and other poetry from around the world may be incorporated into the performance.

Angelou has offered the course and directed a performance at its conclusion several times in the past.
