Wake Forest expresses interest in hosting Clinton-Obama debate
March 20, 2008
Wake Forest University officials are making various contacts to express interest in hosting a debate between Democratic presidential hopefuls Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama in April.
Wake Forest President Nathan O. Hatch and others began expressing interest recently after hearing that the two candidates might debate in North Carolina in April. In particular, Hatch has contacted the North Carolina Democratic Party in Raleigh to propose that the party and others involved in the decision-making process consider Wake Forest as a site.
As university officials understand it, a site, date and television network have not been chosen for the potential North Carolina debate.
Little has been reported about the potential North Carolina debate in the news media. Recently, news media reported that the Democratic candidates had agreed on an April 16 debate in Pennsylvania. News media also reported that an April debate in North Carolina might also take place.
