Advisory: WFU winter break service trips update
December 18, 2007
Two groups of students from Wake Forest University, accompanied by staff members, will spend winter break serving the poor in Calcutta, India, and rebuilding homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina in Pearlington, Miss. Group representatives are available for interviews before they leave and after they return to campus.
The Baptist Student Union will meet on campus at 5 a.m. Jan. 6 and drive to Mississippi. The group expects to be putting final touches on homes so Pearlington residents can at last move out of FEMA trailers and into their own homes. The students and staff members plan to return to campus by the early evening on Jan. 16.
Students going to Calcutta will gather in New York City Dec. 28 and will fly to India the next morning. While in Calcutta, the group will work with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity changing beds, bathing patients, cleaning the wards, and feeding and comforting the sick. The students and staff will fly to Charlotte and be back on campus the evening of Jan. 12.
