Wake Forest University to present spring dance concert
March 27, 2007
The Wake Forest University Dance Company will highlight the works of 13 student choreographers at its annual spring dance concert at 7:30 p.m. April 26-28 and at 2 p.m. April 29 in the MainStage Theatre in Scales Fine Arts Center.
During the program, 44 dance company members will perform to a variety of music selections in ballet, modern, musical theater and jazz works choreographed by Wake Forest seniors: Audrey Cotton, Nicole Fitzpatrick, Meaghan Lynch and Adrianne Showell; juniors Anna Banerjea, Sarah Kylap, Kelly Mullen, Morgan Parton, Caitlin Patrick and Brooke Vogel; sophomores Gabriella Ortiz and Julianne Scarpino; and freshman Allison Fuster.
Some highlights of the performance include: a classical ballet piece created by Lynch, a Wake Forest Presidential Scholar in dance; a contemporary modern piece contrasting robotic, mechanical movement with soft, fluid movement; a work blending hip-hop dance and African and jazz traditions; and a modern dance created by Fuster about Hurricane Katrina using movement to communicate unity and service to others.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students, senior citizens and children. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Wake Forest Theatre Box Office at (336) 758-5295 between noon and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
