February 2, 2007
The media are invited to cover a Wake Forest University celebration at 4 p.m. today honoring the recent achievements of the university’s football, men’s soccer and field hockey teams.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature student-athletes and coaches, the Wake Forest band, the Demon Deacon mascot and cheerleaders. It will take place in the university’s Wait Chapel.
Stan Cotton, play-by-play announcer for broadcasts of Wake Forest football and basketball games, will serve as master of ceremonies for the celebration. Wake Forest President Nathan O. Hatch, Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines and members of the honored teams will make remarks.
The event is intended to recognize the achievements of the three teams from the fall semester. The football team played in the FedEx Orange Bowl after winning the ACC championship. The field hockey team won the ACC championship and played in the NCAA national championship game. The men’s soccer team won the regular season ACC championship and played in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament.
