Wake Forest students take second place at national biz quiz
December 7, 2006
A team of three Wake Forest University students recently took second place at the first Fisher Biz Quiz National Challenge at the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. The competition took place Nov. 3 and 4 and was sponsored by Nationwide Insurance Agency and The Wall Street Journal.
Three finance majors, senior Peter Ayoub of New Canaan, Conn.; senior Teddy Koch of Lewisville, N.C.; and junior Matt Mahon of Edina, Minn., competed against 10 other teams from undergraduate business programs across the nation to see which students had the best knowledge of current business issues as reported in September and October editions of The Wall Street Journal. All three are students in Wake Forest’s Calloway School of Business and Accountancy.
The Calloway School team finished second to a team from Michigan State University, and finished ahead of the third place team from Pennsylvania State University. Ayoub, Koch and Mahon were awarded a prize of $1,500.
Robert R. Bliss, the F.M. Kirby Chair of Business Excellence at the Calloway School, was the team’s faculty advisor.
"The students were great,” said Bliss. “They worked very hard and impressed a great many people.”
Jack E. Wilkerson Jr., dean of the Calloway School, said the quiz’s focus on The Wall Street Journal complements the education Calloway students receive. “Anything we can do to encourage our students to stay up-to-date in their knowledge of current business events and activities is a good thing,” Wilkerson said.
The Fisher Biz Quiz was designed by the students at The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business. It will become an annual event.
