Power Generating Fabrics - PowerFelt: WFU researchers have developed a new fabric that generates power from the heat and motion of the human body (among other things). Reported in the NY Times as one of 32 inventions that will “change your life” (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/06/03/magazine/innovations-issue.html?emc=eta1) researchers at Wake Forest’s NanoCenter have devised a unique way of combining p-doped and n-doped nanotube composites to form essentially a nonwoven fabric (like a felt). PowerFelt: a power producing fabric developed at NanoCenter (courtesy Corey Hewitt)

NanoCenterw is unusual among academic research centers. By combining federally supported basic research with industrially supported development activities, the center can focus on innovation and advantage in technology development. Center programs typically start with lab demonstrations, progress through the process of design and development to prototyping, and end with advanced alpha-production for clients.

Developing a project at NanoCenterw

NanoCenterw seeks partnerships: (1) for the development of early stage technologies, (2) in need of technical support for existing products/manufacturing, or (3) for basic research services.    For more information, contact us...

FIPEL: a new lighting system developed at NanoCenter (courtesy Ken Bennett)

NanoCenterw combines elements of basic research, studio design, and engineering into a unique applied sciences community that is recognized internationally. The Center employs significant equipment assets, technical staff, faculty and contract engineers to bridge the divide between basic and applied sciences. Through a careful balance of investigation, innovation and translation, NanoCenterw seeks to address problems of critical need to human societies...
