People of NANOTECH

The Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials at Wake Forest University is a user facility which consists of core labs, faculty labs, and managed facilities.  The primary user base of the facility is the affiliate and adjunct members. All faculty appointments (affiliate / adjunct) are afforded full use of facilities and programmatic initiatives of the Center. They are appointed by the Center Director, in consultation with the governing board, on a yearly basis.

Affiliate Faculty

Affiliate faculty are voting members of the NANOTECH Center and actively engaged in cross-disciplinary research programs that are ongoing at the Center.

Governing Structure of NANOTECH:

The Director:
The Center director is appointed by the Provost of Reynolda Campus of Wake Forest University in concensus with the standing Governing Board.

The Governing Board:
The Board is a faculty group appointed with approval of the Provost and is a self sustaining group.  Appointment is based on a simple majority vote with the Center director holding any tie breaking vote.

The Extrernal Advisory Board (EAB):
The EAB is appointed by the provost with recommendation and guidance of the Board

Mission:

The the Center seeks to provide all affiliates access to state of the art facilities and interaction opportunities, building a community of nanoscience researchers in the Winston-Salem, Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.  Our Goal is to establish a program of National Prominence in areas of BioMedical Nanotechnologies, Organic Device and Alternative Energy Technologies, and Novel Nanomaterials and Assemblies (such as meta-materials).

Membership:

To be considered for membership contact the center director. All members recieve:

Low user rates at the Regional Microscopy Facility
Access to Center facilities and equipment.
Limited access to core faculty laboratories
Access to visiting scientist positions when funding is available
Access to studentships when available

To support the research environment the Center provides some joint funding for initiatives at the directors descretion, a seminar series in nanotechnology, as well as a yearly conference/workshop that serves as a "summer school" for the education and growth of our research community.
