L.A. Theatre Works radio drama
"Top Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon Papers"
This theatrical event, starring John Heard and directed by the acclaimed actor/director John Rubinstein, son of famed pianist Arthur Rubinstein, uses original source material and the old-fashioned format of the live radio drama to tell the story of the epic legal battle between the government and the press in 1971, during the Nixon administration. The play, based on interviews and documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, follows the debate played out at Ben Bradlee's home as his staff sorts through the documents and tries to decide if publishing The Papers violates national security. In a political year, this will be a particularly timely experience.

The quintet and Dr. Peter Kairoff will feature the Sextet for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano by Francis Poulenc. The piano predominates. While for the most part, the piece is light-hearted, the 2nd movement emphasizes lyrical lines of incredible beauty and charm. The program will also feature Kathryn Levy and Eileen Young in duets by Morton Gould, Vincent Donatelli and John Rutter. The concert will open with Pastoral by Vincent Persichetti and 3 pieces from "On the Overgrown Path" by Leoš Janáček, a transcription of the piano work.

Secrest
Artists Series
Wake Forest
provides numerous opportunities for music students to attend concerts
by performers of national and international repute. The Secrest Artists
Series brings to the campus the best of the established and the most
promising of the new artists in the performing arts world. Recently
featured artists include Denyce Graves, mezzo-soprano opera star; Eugenia
Zukerman, flutist; Eileen Ivers, Celtic fiddler; Doc Severinsen and
his Big Band; Itzak Perlman, violinist; Christopher Parkening, guitarist
and the early music vocal ensemble, Anonymous 4. Pre-concert talks by
University professors enhance the performance experience, and, occasionally,
master classes with a Secrest artist are offered to qualified music
students. Each year the series sponsors five concerts and admission
is free to Wake Forest faculty, staff and students.
