4th Annual MLK, Jr Gospel Fest Featuring Donald Lawrence and Company

MLK, Jr. Invitational Basketball Tournament

Each year WFU Athletics and the WFU Office of Multicultural Affairs co-sponsor an invitational basketball tournament in honor of the memory Martin Luther King, Jr. As part of a larger weekend of events, the Invitational Basketball Tournament brings together teams from a variety of different schools in the area, including Winston-Salem State University, UNC Greensboro, NC A&T, Johnson C. Smith University, and UNC Chapel Hill, among others. This event includes tournament play up to a championship game, as well as a slam-dunk and 3-point shot contest. This is a free event for everyone.

GospelFest

Each year Gospel Fest happens as part of a collaborative effort between the WFU Office of Multicultural Affairs and Winston-Salem State University in honor of the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. This event features a major gospel artist each year, and WFU’s own Gospel Choir. Past featured artists include Donal Lawrence, Martha Munizzi, Byron Cage, and Kim Burrell.

This year the Office of Multicultural Affairs is proud to present gospel artist Kurt Carr! Be sure to come out to this powerful event on Sunday, January 17, 2009, at 3:00 pm in Brendle Recital Hall on our campus.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and Keynote

Each year the WFU Office of Multicultural Affairs and Winston-Salem State University collaborate to host a major celebration in honor of the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A nationally-renowned speaker is brought in to give the keynote address, and past speakers have included people such as Berniece King, Lavar Burton, and Ruby Dee. This is a free event for all.

This year the keynote speaker for the MLK, Jr. Celebration is the esteemed Dr. Maya Angelou. Be sure to come to the evening program on Monday, January 18th, 2010, at 7:00 pm in Wait Chapel on our campus.
