WAKE FOREST MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE WINSTON-SALEM FOUNDATION

Wake Forest University’s Museum of Anthropology was awarded a $9,900 grant from the J.C. Tice Fund of The Winston-Salem Foundation to help publicize the museum’s education programs for schoolchildren in Forsyth County.

The grant will fund a publication describing the museum’s education programs. The new booklet will allow the museum to share information to a wider audience. In addition to raising awareness of existing programs for elementary and middle school students, the publication will also highlight the museum’s new offerings for high school students. In the fall, the Museum of Anthropology will provide curriculum-based outreach programs linked to high school classes in world history, social studies and art.

The Winston-Salem Foundation is a community foundation that supports charitable programs in the greater Forsyth County area. Founded in 1919 by Colonel Francis Fries with a $1,000 gift, it now administers over 1,000 funds with total custodial assets of over $280 million. In 2006, the Foundation granted more than $30 million to charitable causes, $1.9 million of which was in competitive grants.
