Totem poles are still made today. They carry messages and are works of art. What are other types of art? What type of art do you like to make? How does it make you feel when you create art? (proud, happy, etc) How do you think totem poles might make Native American artists feel? What other types of art do you see in this display? (Baskets, mat, horn spoon, etc.)

Do you see the tiny totem pole? It is a miniature version of big totem poles, which could be as tall as a house! Totem poles often have pictures carved on them that tell a story about a person’s ancestors. What other ways do people keep records about their families? (family tree, family pictures albums)
