Treasures from a Moravian Attic: Native American Objects from the Wachovia Historical Society

Northeast

This excerpt from a story can be read while looking at the moccasins and purse in the Northeast display case.

“Long ago…there lived a girl named Quillworker.

Her skills with a needle brought praise from tribes all around.

Quillworker would go to the Lodge of the Quiller’s Society to teach the youngest girls.

She would describe how she gathered and dyed porcupine quills with vibrant colors, then created her beautiful designs.

All the while, her fingers would fly as she embroidered yet another pouch or quiver.” (Quillworker)
