Developing Leadership
|
One of the strongest benefits of joining the Greek system is the leadership skills you will gain. Fraternities are self-governing entities. As such, there are numerous positions that require capable leadership within each of the fraternity chapters. In addition to the leadership opportunities within your fraternity, Greek Life opens up connections within other campus organizations such as Student Government. Greeks traditionally are very involved as officers and committee members within Student Government.
There are additional opportunities for leadership training such as becoming an officer in the Interfraternity Council, Order of Omega, Piccolo Cancer Drive Planning Committee, All Greek Council, or even participating in the annual Greek Leadership Caucus. A fraternity presence is always found at campus wide initiatives like the LEAD program, New Leader’s Retreat, and the President’s Leadership Conference.
Leadership in your fraternity helps to develop you for leadership opportunities after college. The majority of US Congressmen and all but two US Presidents over the past century have been Greek. Most CEO’s and officers in Fortune 500 businesses have roots in fraternities.
Joining a fraternity helps round you out as a person by providing opportunities such as leadership that you would not gain anywhere else on campus.
