Academic Achievement

One of the common misconceptions about fraternity life is that it adversely affects grades.  Each student is responsible for his own grades.  And a students’ grades prior to joining a fraternity typically remain consistent.  For this reason, the Interfraternity Council, the governing body of the Wake Forest fraternity community, has required that any student wishing to participate in the rush process must have a minimum 2.25 GPA.  Additionally, each fraternity has the option of implementing a more stringent academic requirement for new membership or even continued membership within the fraternity.  Many fraternity men achieve higher grades because of their involvement with their organization.  The competition between the fraternities for the highest fraternity GPA pushes all members to seek their best for the good of the group.

How does a fraternity help your grades?  There are many ways.  Each fraternity has a unique scholarship program designed to meet the needs of the student.  Many fraternities enforce study hall, requiring a certain number of hours per week of designated study time.

The most beneficial component of the Greek grade system is the mentorship from the upperclassmen.  Members of each fraternity will probably have similar majors or have at least taken similar divisional classes.  Older members provide you with wisdom and advice on your current classes and recommend classes/professors for the future.  The Greek community rewards its members by recognizing the top students in each fraternity with the Greek specific honor society, The National Order of Omega.

If you are looking to help your GPA and increase your chances of success after graduation, joining a fraternity can help you achieve academically.
