Rebecca Brock The Museum of Albermarle: http://www.albemarle-nc.com/MOA/ This web site tells a short history of the Albermarle County area in Eastern North Carolina. This county contains places like Elizabeth City and the outdoor theater where the outdoor drama, "The Lost Colony," is put on every summer. The Museum of Albermarle is the content provider for the site. The home page contains a table of contents with only a few links for the visitor to chose from. The museum organizes the contents thematically. Some of the choices are: Colonial Times, Civil War, "The Lost Colony" and World War II. These links are all easy to navigate, and though the following pages are simple and short, they tell the visitor some interesting facts and stories about Elizabeth City and the surrounding area. For example, the Colonial Times link allows the visitor to read about the history of Elizabeth City and Elizabeth Tooley. (The city is named after her). The author writes this page in textbook fashion, but the reader does not become completely lost in the text. However, it does start to read and look like a paper at times. The home page does have a picture, which adds to the design. Though some pages are completely text, not all are only text. Some pages have pictures or designs along with text. The author also shows that he or she is not partial to any particular opinion which he or she shows in the stories about Elizabeth Tooley. At every link, or every page the browser visits, the homepage, Museum of Albermarle, link is at the top of the page. This does two things. First of all, it tells the viewer who the source is for the site and gives the site credibility. The second thing it does is help the visitor return to the home page and Table of Contents easily. This is important for navigation. Also on every page, at the bottom, are a number of links. These links contain the Albermarle Museum home page, but also other home pages like the North Carolina History Museum and Coastal Tourism. This too is important because it allows the visitor to easily move to other sites that will tell them about North Carolina. The design for the web site is very simple. The backgound is white, but there are also faint sketches of old ships in the background. The text is black and the links are pink. Everything is easy to read though not that eye catching or striking. The site is also easy to navigate, and moves fairly fast. The Museum of Albermarle web site is a site for anyone interested in the North Carolina coastal history. The interested tourist might also want to take a look. The site is credible, easy to navigate, simply designed and tells some interesting facts. |
