Department Chair

Welcome to the German & Russian Department’s web page at Wake Forest University.  We hope the site will provide visitors with an overview of the department’s vision and mission statement, its pedagogical aims and concentrations, its dedication to students and their intellectual and personal development, and the faculty and staff who provide that support.  The primary focus of our department is preparing students for a global future, where language and cultural competency are demanded and assumed as much as business, marketing, or economic familiarity.  The department has a proven and strong teaching and scholarship record that is nationally and internationally known. We place a great deal of importance on foreign study and offer our students a multitude of study-abroad opportunities.  This goal is synonymous with our motto: preparing students for a global future.  Without our dedication to study abroad, we would not be able to ensure that promise.

Proudly we have many successful graduates.  Our former students are finding careers in law, medicine, editing, international business, arts, government, and education. This helps us prove that learning German or Russian involves much more than learning a new vocabulary or alphabet.  Our curriculum is interdisciplinary by nature and purposefully exposes students not just to literature, but also to culture, art, politics, history, and the cultural modes of business that practiced beyond our borders.

We hope you enjoy our site and gain a better understanding of what we offer.  If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to call or write.
