Training Classes

Finance Systems is currently offerring the training classes below. These classes are scheduled through the PDC; click on the links to see class dates/times and to register. The sessions are only open to employees within the following departments: Finance Systems, Financial & Accounting Services, Budget & Financial Planning, Internal Audit, and Procurement Services. Please note any prerequisites noted in the course descriptions.

Finance Overview
This course outlines how Banner Finance is structured. The chart of accounts - its structure and use - is discussed at length.  An overview of each Banner module used within the Finance division is also provided.

The prerequisites for the course are: Banner Fundamentals CBT, Banner Getting Started Guide, and Banner Finance Overview CBT. All course participants must complete these or have a firm understanding of the material covered.

Banner access is not required for this class. Computers are not required.

Common Banner Finance Queries
This course covers the most common Banner queries used within Finance, with an explanation of when and why to use each of them as well as how to execute them.  In addition, the Cognos end user reports are discussed.

The prerequisites for the course are: Banner Fundamentals CBT, Banner Getting Started Guide, Banner Finance Overview CBT, and Finance Overview. All course participants must complete these prior to attending class.

Cognos 8.4 Query Studio for Finance
This course covers the Cognos 8.4.2 Query Studio tool. Participants will learn how to build basic queries, including choosing data elements, assigning formatting, sorting data, creating filters, performing calculations and scheduling queries to run. Cognos Connection will also be briefly discussed.

The only prerequisite for this course is the Finance Overview class. Attendees must have a Query Studio license in order to come to class. If you are unsure if you have this type of license, please contact Jane Chapman (x3130).

Finance EDW Training
Come learn about the Finance Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and how to build ad hoc queries off of this data in Cognos 8.4. Each course will cover specific data sets. In addition, the EDW Metadata Google Site will be reviewed so that you can be empowered to find your data when you need it. The class will have an informal agenda; please bring your questions about how to report off of these data sets.

This class has two prerequisites: 'Finance Overview' and 'Cognos 8.4 Query Studio for Finance'. Attendees must have a Query Studio license in order to come to class. If you are unsure if you have this type of license, please contact Jane Chapman (x3130).
