FRESHMAN AND TRANSFER APPLICANTS
HOW TO APPLY:
STEP 1:
Complete the
CSS/PROFILE
for 2009-2010 (using Wake Forest's CSS Code: 5885) after October
1 and before February 1. Complete the application
on-line by clicking on the link above. In addition, registration
guides are available from secondary schools or the Office of
Student Financial Aid. Electronic processing takes approximately
two weeks, and paper applications take four weeks to process.
To inquire about the status of
your Profile, you may call CSS at 305-829-9793.
If your parents are separated or divorced, you and the parent
with whom you live (the "custodial" parent) must complete
the CSS PROFILE. Your other parent (the "noncustodial"
parent) must complete the CSS
Noncustodial PROFILE. If you indicate on the
CSS registration form that your parents are separated or divorced,
an e-mail from CSS will automatically be sent to you. You should
forward this e-mail to your noncustodial parent and request
that he or she complete the Noncustodial Profile online, and
submit the required supporting documents (2008 income tax returns,
including all schedules, W-2 wage statements, and any applicable
S-Corporation or partnership returns). You may also give
CSS your noncustodial parent's e-mail address, and CSS will
notify your parent directly of the Noncustodial Profile requirement. Your financial aid application cannot be processed until this
information is received by CSS. If either parent is remarried,
information about the spouse's income, assets, and dependents
residing with the family must also be included.
STEP 2:
To apply for federal financial aid,
complete the 2009-2010 Free
Application for Federal Student Aid
(using Wake Forest's Federal Title IV Code: 002978) after January
1, 2009. We recommend that you complete your
2008 taxes before completing the FAFSA. If this will delay completion
of your application, you should submit estimated figures and
use actual figures to correct that Student Aid Report at a later
date. The FAFSA is available online or in print form. Print
copies are available from secondary schools or the Office of
Student Financial Aid. To complete the application on-line,
click on the link above. Electronic processing takes approximately
two weeks, and paper applications take approximately four weeks
to process.
All students and parents are encouraged to sign
up for a PIN in advance of filing the FAFSA.
A PIN allows you to sign your application electronically, view
and make corrections to your application on-line, and sign a
master promissory note electronically.
To inquire about the status of
your FAFSA, you may call the Federal Student Aid Information
Center at 800-433-3243.
STEP 3:
All students, parents, and stepparents
must submit signed copies of federal income tax forms (including
all schedules, W-2 wage statements, partnership tax returns
and schedules, and S-corporation tax returns and schedules.
Noncustodial parents (and their spouses, if applicable) are
also required to submit copies of all applicable tax forms.
If your parents did not file income taxes, they are required
to submit the Parent(s) Non-tax Return Filer Statement.
Tax documents should be submitted
to the College Scholarship Service (CSS) of The College Board.
You will receive instructions after you have completed the PROFILE
application online. Always attach the IDOC cover sheet sent
to you by CSS.
After reviewing application materials, the Office of Student
Financial Aid may determine that additional information is needed.
The office will contact you to request any additional documentation
needed to process your aid application. If you receive a request
for additional information, respond promptly to avoid delaying
your application.
