Commercial Automobile

Type of Coverage

Covers all sums for which the University or its' employees become legally obligated to pay because of bodily injury or property damage to a third party arising out of the operation, ownership, or use of an owned, non-owned, hired, or leased vehicle. Non-owned and hired vehicles must be in use for University business. However, when employees use their own vehicle, their personal insurance is primary and the University's insurance is excess over the employee's.

The University also covers physical damage losses on owned vehicles that are 1992 or newer with a $500 deductible.

Claims Reporting

    When an accident occurs:

    1. Call, fax or email the Financial & Accounting Services Office (x4197 (phone), x4335 (fax), or grovesjl@wfu.edu).
    2. Complete an Automobile Loss Notice. Click here for an example.
    3. Request a copy of the Police Report.
    4. Forward a copy of the Loss Notice to Financial & Accounting Services.

Documentation

    Effective claims' handling requires follow-up.

    1. The police will conduct an investigation of the accident and interview all witnesses.
    2. Obtain an estimate for repairing the vehicle. Contact Facilities Management Motor Pool (x4259) for assistance.
    3. Forward this information to Financial & Accounting Services

Claims Management
The Financial & Accounting Services Office will coordinate the flow of information from the University to the Insurance carrier and make sure all involved personnel receive the necessary feedback.
