Comprehensive General Liability

Type of Coverage

Covers claims brought against the University by non-employees or entities alleging loss or damage to their property, person or for personal injury to themselves. Claims are covered when arising out of the regular activities of the University, its' properties, and other special activities sponsored by the University.

This coverage is extended to employees, officers, faculty, administrators, directors, trustees, students and other affiliated persons or organizations when acting or deemed to be acting within the scope and performance of their duties for the University.

When a claim or potential claim occurs:

1. Do not admit any liability. Protect people from any damaged area.
2. Call, fax or e-mail Financial & Accounting Services (x4197 (phone), x4335 (fax) or grovesjl@wfu.edu).
3. Obtain as much information as possible from the injured party.
4. Obtain the name(s) of witness(es) and phone numbers and ask them to complete the Witness Statement.
5. Report the incident to the University Police Department and request a copy of the report.
6. Complete the General Liability Notice. Click here for an example.
7. Forward a copy of the Notice to Financial & Accounting Services, Julie Groves.

Documentation

Effective claims' handling requires follow-up.

1. Conduct an investigation of the incident. Contact the Safety and Environmental Affairs Office (x4329) for assistance.
2. Recommend corrective measures to prevent further losses or to repair damaged areas.
3. Forward this information to Financial & Accounting Services, Julie Groves (x4197).
