Third Quarter F&CS STAR Award Receiptants

3rdQtrStar

Tommy Crews
Tommy Crews is deserving of this award.  There is not just one accomplishment that really sticks out for Tommy. It is his overall can-do attitude. He is ready to tackle any problem, on his team or one of the other teams. He makes himself available on nights and weekends even when he is not on call. One example was answering the call at 2:00 AM on a Sunday morning to discuss a problem with Salem Hall. Whenever I have the opportunity to work with Tommy, he has my full confidence. His HV/AC knowledge is excellent, his trouble-shooting skills are top-notch, and he produces quality work and results.

3rdQtrStar

Jimmy Hughes
Jimmy came to work at Reynolda Village during a period of transition, when many new tenants were moving in and new plantings were being installed or changed. Landscaping activities have continued to expand through the year and a half he has been here, and he has worked tirelessly to make sure that all projects and activities assigned to him are completed to the best of his ability and in a timely manner. His even temper and positive attitude, combined with his dedication to producing quality work, make him an excellent representative of the university.
Jimmy goes far and above the scope of his daily duties and always strives for perfection in everything he does.  There is always a smile on his face that accompanies a very positive attitude. He is friendly and helpful to everyone. He is genuinely concerned about his work and does it beautifully every day. He takes pride in his work and jumps in to help without being asked. It is truly an honor to work with Jimmy

3rdQtrStar

Michelle Hutchings
In the absence of the regular IT person, Michelle stepped in and solved every IT related issue that came up in my office (and a lot came up). One day, when I lost my entire electronic calendar, Michelle spent four hours resolving the issue on multiple phone calls with vendors and service providers. She was persistent, creative and dedicated to solving the problem. She didn’t even lose her cool. Michelle went so far above and beyond the call of duty to provide excellent service; I don’t have the words to thank her.  For this and for her general professionalism and positive attitude in the workplace, I am nominating Michelle for the STAR award. She is a super-STAR in my book!

3rdQtrStar

Ron Whitlock
Ron is one of the most qualified and knowledgeable technicians, and is regularly one of the first called upon to help out with an unusual problem. He responds to calls for help, day or night, and never backs down from a challenge.  He communicates in a clear and concise fashion, and is not afraid to suggest game plan changes as new and timelier information becomes available. Ron usually carries a smile on his face, and prefers to shun the spotlight even when he knows his efforts were instrumental to the successful completion of a difficult task in a safe, efficient and professional manner.  When Ron is leading the actual work effort, the task will be done right the first time. His efforts during several recent high voltage problems are a prime example of his ability and attitude. He stayed late, arrived early, missed lunch, communicated clearly, and worked closely with both contract and WFU employees. Thankfully his ability to play the drums or drive a race car pales in comparison to this technician abilities, otherwise we would be without a valued employee.
