Undergraduate Teacher Education Program Highlights

The Department of Education offers both majors and minors in Education.

Students who are interested in teaching elementary (grades K-6) will major in Elementary Education.

Students who are interested in teaching secondary (grades 9-12) English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics will major in that subject and minor in Education.

Students who are interested in teaching Social Studies (grades 9-12) may either major in Social Studies Education or major in History and minor in Education.

Students who are interested in teaching French, Spanish or German (grades K-12) will major in that subject and minor in Education.

In all cases, students may choose the Licensure or Non-licensure minor. The Licensure minor is 26 hours and leads to a North Carolina teaching license. The Non-licensure minor, which does not include student teaching, is 14 hours and might be a good choice for a student interested in a private school or a lateral entry position or Teach for America.
