Katherine O'Brien and Wendy Bartlett Receive Waddill Excellence in Teaching Awards
The Department of Education would like to congratulate two recent graduates who have just received the Marcellus Waddill Excellence in Teaching Award. Katherine O'Brien ('01), who teaches at St. Elmo Elementary School in Austin, Texas received the award for elementary education. Wendy Bartlett ('97) teaches at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and received the award for secondary education. The awards were officially presented at Convocation on Thursday September 18. The two recipients were also honored at a separate ceremony by the Education Department at which they shared their wisdom and experiences with current teacher candidates enrolled in Education programs. Congratulations Katie and Wendy!
Department Welcomes John Pecore and Janet Littleton as New Faculty
John Pecore will be teaching Science Methods for both secondary and elementary, and also supervising science research projects. He comes to us from Georgia State University.
Janet Littleton will be teaching Field Experiences and Arts and Movement for elementary students. She is our clinical instructor and she comes from Latham Elementary School.
Adam Friedman Publishes Research on Use of MMORPGs In Social Studies Education
Dr. Friedman co-authored a chapter in the Handbook of Research on Effective Electronic Gaming in Education titled "The Role of MMORPGs in Social Studies Education". (MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.)
