Involvement in the Pi Alpha chapter of CSI begins the first day you enter the graduate program at Wake Forest University. The Director of Membership, Meleah Selip, worked tirelessly to pair up 2nd year counseling students with first year students so as to build a foundation of friendship in the transitional period of the first semester. The mentor can act as a support system with academic and emotional concerns throughout the semester and encourage the mentee to strive to meet the criteria necessary for CSI membership. This foundation is also vital to the overall mission of CSI International “...to encourage the pursuit of personal excellence by members” and the stated strategic goal of “...mentoring counselors-in-training and professional counselors from diverse cultural backgrounds.” Additionally, this mentorship program has served to meet the chapter goal of “...to structure the mentor program as to support and encourage the development of mutually beneficial relationships.”

As the year progresses there are multiple CSI sponsored events that mentees are invited to participate in so as to promote interest in the organization such as: Service Events, Student of the Week recognitions, Social events, Seminar and Guest Speaker Series and the favorites “events where we eat, laugh and enjoy each other’s company.” All of these activities meet the criteria for the strategic goals designated by CSI of: recognizing excellence in scholarship and leadership, promoting collaborative relationships, providing training and forums for counseling advocacy, and promoting communication and networking among members.
