Pi Alpha Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota

History and Background

Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) is an honor society within the Counseling profession, which recognizes and promotes excellence in academics, professional development and the practice of counseling. The Pi Alpha Chapter of CSI was established at Wake Forest University in 1991. The WFU Department of Counseling is home to the Pi Alpha Chapter of CSI. Membership within this chapter is available to students who have completed their first semester of graduate classes and have met national application requirements. The officers of Pi Alpha are elected by the rising second-year students and serve one-year terms. As of September 2010, there were 16 active student Pi Alpha members and over 255 alums of this chapter. Spring initiation could boost the number of members to 35.

National Awards Received by Pi Alpha Chapter

Receiving the 2009 Outstanding Chapter Award.

In March 2009, the Wake Forest Department of Counseling Pi Alpha chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (international academic and professional counseling honor society) received the Outstanding Small Chapter Award at the annual convention of the American Counseling Association in Charlotte.

Pi Alpha also won the Outstanding Chapter Individual Program Award which was presented at the 2007 ACA Convention in Detroit.

In 2001, Counseling students in the Pi Alpha Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota win two top national awards: Outstanding Chapter and Outstanding Newsletter.
