Dr. William Glasser appeared at Wake Forest University on February 21, 2005 as a guest of the Department of Counseling. Over 400 counselors and graduate students enjoyed the opportunity to hear one of the world’s best known psychiatrists discuss his latest thinking on Reality Therapy and Choice Theory.

An internationally recognized therapist, Dr. Glasser is best known as the author of Reality Therapy, a method of psychotherapy he created in 1965 and which is now taught all over the world. Glasser’s path has been one of a continuing progression in private practice, lecturing and writing, ultimately culminating in the publication of over twenty books. After writing the counseling book Reality Therapy he added education with The Quality School: Managing Students without Coercion, Every Student can Succeed and Schools Without Failure. He greatly expanded the understanding of motivation and behavior with Choice Therapy in 1998 and is now focusing on helping people improve their own mental health or happiness with his latest book, Warning: Psychiatry Can Be Hazardous to Your Mental Health in 2003.

During this full-day seminar, Dr. Glasser explained what mental health is and how counselors using choice theory can teach clients to improve their mental health. He and his wife Carleen, also a reality therapist, answered questions and engaged in role-plays with volunteers from the audience. His books were available for sale at the seminar.
