Democracy Matters
Offers a paid internship on your campus for undergraduate students to work on "Organizing for Social Change." Democracy Matters is a national non-partisan organization that encourages student involvement in issues such as campaign finance reform, a reform that will change the way election campaigns are funded.
Democracy Matters presently has undergraduate interns working on 85 campuses nationwide. Our founder and President is Adonal Foyle, an NBA player, who believes that students should have more of a voice in our democracy.
Our seven-year old program gives student interns a year of intense training and mentorship by our professional staff as they work to form a DM chapter on campus and promote outreach and activities that deepen democracy. Students also attend national DM conferences. The program is ideal for a rising sophomore or junior who is interested in politics, social change and/or political reform. The internship can be coordinated with your school's practicum or internship programs.
To apply, students should email a resume and cover letter to joanm@democracymatters.org and check out our website, www.democracymatters.org

Work for a public relations firm, Fleishman-Hillard. Our Atlanta office is looking for summer interns and I’d like to ask if you could pass this to anyone in the department who might know of any WF seniors looking for a PR internship in Atlanta.
It is a paid internship, though I’m not sure the wage, and a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a PR agency environment and network for a future full-time job. Though not guaranteed, we sometimes hire interns to full-time positions.
If anyone is interested, they can send a resume to me at the email address below and I can send it to the person coordinating the program.

Grassroots Campaigns’ current and past clients include MoveOn.org, the Democratic National Committee, the ACLU, and the League of Conservation Voters. We are hiring for the following position:
2008 Election Field Staff
This is a two part position. Initially, Election Field Staff will work as directors in our fundraising campaign offices to build financial and volunteer support for the Democratic Party’s organizing efforts. Starting in the fall, staff will work with MoveOn.org’s innovative voter identification and get out the vote campaign in all swing states as well as progressive blue state cities to get all voters out to the polls.
Phase 1:
Directors will run our door-to-door fundraising campaigns to build the base of support progressives need to win. Director’s responsibilities include:
Recruitment: Build a team of 15-50 canvassers by recruiting from within the local community. Interview prospective staff and make hiring decisions.

- Recruit volunteers through phone calls, emails, individual interactions and community events.
- Train volunteers in effective get-out-the-vote skills, including door-to-door voter persuasion and mobilization.
- Manage and mobilize volunteers by meeting weekly with lead volunteers to plan upcoming get-out-the-vote canvass and phone banks, and provide ongoing volunteer recruitment and training.

This individual’s main responsibility will be to serve as a sports reporter by interviewing players and coaches from the 25+ public and private high-schools in the Triad area. In addition, you will be writing feature stories for the website on high-school athletes in the Triad area. About TriadHighSchoolFootball.com
TriadHighSchoolFootball.com is from the creators of CharlotteHighSchoolFootball.com; which was just launched last year in the 2007 season. In just a four-month span, we generated close to 250,000 hits. With this huge success, we now have individual websites for the Triangle area, Triad area, and the entire state of South Carolina.
How our success can lead you to greater success
Many students have the talent to work on the next level once they graduate from school. The problem is separating yourself from the hundreds of other college graduates competing for the same job. One way to separate yourself is interning for a website that generates a lot of traffic; doing this will allow your work to be displayed on a global scale where prospective employers can see just how talented you are. Doing the internship doesn’t guarantee you a job once you graduate, but it certainly puts you in a better position than the college graduates who didn’t.
Other benefits of being an intern with TriadHighSchoolFootball.com
- Creates an impressive portfolio for your future job interviews.
- Having the unique opportunity to work at sporting venues as opposed to working in an office.
- Having access to high-level people in the sports world (i.e. coaches, athletic directors, recruiters, members of the media) for networking purposes.
- Free meals while covering most games.
If you are interested, please contact your internship coordinator or John Tobias (Chief Editor) at John@CharlotteHighSchoolFootball.com or at 704 916-4821. You can also email your resume to John@CharlotteHighSchoolFootball.com.
