- Nick Adams' ('95). new book released in March is Making Friends with Black People. After a two year hiatus in Tucson, AZ, he's back in Los Angeles hard at work on his next book and working to bring Making Friends to the small screen.
- Jen (Baran) Alfieri ('01, MA) lives outside of Rochester, NY with her husband Mike and daughter Hannah Claire who was born in March 2005. She earned a MBA from Northeastern University in 2004 and currently work as a Program Director in the Office of Workforce Development at Monroe Community College.
- Sean L. Allen has spent five year playing professional basketball in Europe (Finland, Israel, and the Netherlands) and has developed a flourish interest in politics.

(2000, MA '03) and Becca Eaton ('03) were married
in Houston in May 2005. He is working on his Ph.D. at the University
of Georgia where he is teaching and coaching debate. Becca is working
as an events director at the Univ. of Georgia..
- Rachel Avon
(1998,
MA 2000) was awarded the Ballard
Seashore Dissertation Completion Fellowship at Iowa. It was a university
wide selection process and she was chosen as one of five. And more importantly she has a Baby girl, Felicity, in July 2005. She teaches at Lake Forest north of Chicago.
- Christen Balady passed away in car accident in December 2005 in Pennsylvania. Her irrepressible personality graced the department during her time at Wake
- Jenny Bantz ('99) has entered the Art History Ph.D. program at CUNY's Graduate Center in Manhattan.

- Mark A. Beckett (BA '88) lives in Columbia, SC and is the Manager of Pool Stock and Freight Audit for Belk, Inc. Based in Charlotte, NC, Belk is the nation's largest privately owned department store company with 277 stores in 16 states. The company was founded in 1888. In his spare time, Mark enjoys fishing, throwing darts, and critiquing local NPR announcers.

retired in Las Vegas after the most successful string of National HS debate championships in history at Glenbrook North, Chicago. Worth a visit we're sure.

Best (MA)
has had a successful career in the corporate world - mostly telecom
in Dallas and now Kansas City. She has worked with many aspects
of management ans is not on the path to more consulting and has
thoughts of getting her Doctorate.

Black (MA, 2002) is a new instructor at the University of Alabama. Jason studies the intersection
of U.S. nationalism and social change. And publishes like crazy.Jennifer
Black (MA, 2001)is a grans officer at Shelton State.

Bender (MA, ’98) and his wife Edye welcomed into
the world twins, James and Caroline in July (See picture on left).
They live in Rock Hill, SC where David is pastor at Bethesda Presbyterian
Church (founded in 1789). After Wake Forest David earned his Master
of Divinity Degree at Columbia Theological Seminary (2001) in Georgia.
He is planning on starting a Doctor of Ministry program in the summer,
either at Columbia or at Union Theological Seminary--PSCE in Richmond
VA.

('95, MA '97) and Judd Kimball ('90) exciting news is that their
first child, Bella Adrienne Kimball was born on April 20, 2005 in
Evanston, IL. Adrienne is the Assistant Debate coach at Richmond
University beginning in the Fall of 2005.
- Anne
Burkett (1998) Lives in Winston-Salem and have been a non-profit
fundraiser since she graduated. She worked for 4 years at Habitat
for Humanity of Forsyth County as a Development Assistant is currently
a Special Events Manager for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.,
where she coordinates several major fundraising events, including
the MS Walk and MS Bike Tour. Her primary duties include working
with top event fundraisers, team captains, media and sponsors.

- Kelly Blackman Capps (MA '04)
was married in June 2004. She is working as a Communication
Specialist for a non-profit organization in Raleigh, NC. She is
also Adjunct Faculty at Wayne Community College.

Carlyle (MA, 2003) recently completed her MPH in Health Behavior and Health Promotion at The Ohio State University, where she is also currently finishing her PhD in Communication. Kellie has been hired as a prof at Arizona State University beginning in the fall of 2007.

('85) has been promoted to Associate Professor at Georgia State
University in Atlanta. He hosted, with the help of GSU Communication
Department Chair, Carol Winkler (MA '83), the NFL
Nationals in Atlanta in June 2005.He is Dir of Graduate studies.
- Damon Chang ('02)'s production company Subtitled films has produced three feature films in addition to other projects. He is currently working to bring a series of reality TV shows to the Asian Market. His new company, called Jiiang.com (http://www.jiiang.com/bp), will be targeting Chinese viewers from around the world in distributing original, Asian content
through online video channels. The company's first show, The Matriarch, is in
development and will shoot in Taiwan at the end of September 2006.

Cohen, Ph.D. (MA) Elisia teaches at the University of St. Louis. She and Jeffrey VanCleave
(former KU coach) were married in Louisville, KY December 27th,

- Alan
Coverstone ('92 MA) had two debate teams at NFL HS Nationals
close out policy debate, winning a rare double national championship.
He is the academic dean at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville,
TN. He and his wife Laura (MA '93) have two boy Mason and
Mitchell.
- Matthew Cox ('06) is working with Discovery Communications
(parent company of the Discovery Channel) in their new
state-of-the-art facility in Sterling, VA. He is a Master Control Operator, whose basic duties are
to monitor multiple Discovery channels simultaneously and ensure that
they are broadcast consistently

Reality in Winston-Salem.

Creel (MA 2000) currently resides in Atlanta, GA where
he serves as an administrator/teacher/coach at Wesleyan, a private
Christian school. He became engagement in November. Colin's new
book Perspectives: A Life Guide for Twentysomethings
was released in April 2005.
- Subrata Dey (MA,
'04) and his wife had a baby girl in April, 2005 (born in India).
- Bill Daughtry (89) has his own
law practice in Elberton, GA, representing the local county Board
of Commissioners, a local bank, and a few land developers. He is
married and has 2 children, Madeline and Phillip Spencer. In his
spare time, he enjoys playing the guitar in a church praise band
and playing the guitar for the almost-famous bluegrass band "Waitin'
On Parts".

BA '01) were married in May 2005. Becca works for Events at U of Georgia and Jarrod is working on his Ph.D.
at Georgia.
- Ryan Eanes (BA '03) is a full-time web producer inside the Fox News
Channel in New York. He is also pursuing his
MA in Media Studies at The New School, and expects to graduate in 2007. He
also operates an independent web and graphic design firm, re:Create LLC, for
authors and other commercial clients. While at WFU Ryan was President of WAKE TV.

- Alan English ('03) is working in Atlanta for
Newell-Rubbermaid. He just completed the TransAtlantic Masters Program in Political Science
through UNC-CH at theUniversidad de Carlos III . TAM is a interdepartmental program administered by UNC and the University of Bath, England. The program focuses on transatlantic relations and european identity.

(Redmond) Feldman (MA), is the League Communications Officer
with the IMPACT Coalition, New York Urban Debate League, NYC. And has a new baby.

(MA, '73) is the Associate Dean of International Education and Associate
Professor of Speech Communication at Morehead University in Kentucky.
- Nate French
('93), defended his dissertation at UNC-CH in March 2005. He is
teaching at Christopher Newport Univ. in Newport News, VA. Nate
and Camille (Wilkerson) welcomed their second
child in July.
- Mitsuhiro Fujimaki (MA, '95) has been teaching at Bunkyo University for five years. It is a small priveate outside of Tokyo. His position deals with communication studies in international contexts. His research area is collective memory and museums. He has been extensively working on Japanese colonial buildings, which have been rebuilt as either a new museum, rebuilt by a new regeme, or mere remains, in order to analyze how new makeup can do for social formations. He and his wife have a 2 1/2 year old son who is "hyper active."

Lynette Gabriel
(BA 1994) has been named Africana Community Coordinator for Guilford
College.Gabriel will provide administrative leadership in the development,
coordination and delivery of social, cultural and education programs
and activities intended to support students of African descent and
promote the education of the college community as a whole on issues
of diversity and equality. She will help to facilitate the academic
achievement of black students. Most recently, Gabriel was senior
assistant director of undergraduate admissions at UNCG since 1999.
She earned a master of arts degree in liberal studies from UNCG
in 2002.
- Alexis Ginsberg ('05) is a graduate student at the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in New York City.

('93, MA '95) and Kara Grant (MA)
and Sam live in Atlanta. Kara is working part time with the Urban
Debate League and Mark is now working as in-house council for Earthlink.
Sam is approaching two years and they has a second addition
to the family in November.
- Yalonda (Davidson) Green (MA'04) is working
on her Ph. D. in Humanities at the University of Louisville and will begin
teaching this Spring (2006). Her emphasis in the program includes Black and African American communicative traditions,
particularly the narrative forms of African American women.

'94, is finishing the Masters of Science program at the Ga Tech College
of Architecture in Building Construction and Integrated Facilities
Management in the Fall of '03. His wife,Jen, is supervisor of e-business
for Delta Employees Credit Union. Daughter Carrie will be 2 in September
and has started early pre-school. He is working with WFU Marketing
and the Georgia DMV to bring Wake Forest license plates to Georgia.

Harmon (MA, 2000) is attending UNC-CH law school. He spent the summer working at the NC Court of Appeals for Judge James Wynn.
- Steve Hinkson (MA '04) is Director of Political Communication at Luntz Research Companies in DC. Prior to joining LRC, Steve worked as a speechwriter in the U.S. Senate.
- Brian
Householder (MA, '00) defended his Ph.D. at the University of
Georgia in Apri 2005l. He has a tenure track position teaching social
influence at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
- Sherick Hughes (MA, '99) earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Currently, he teaches courses in the College of Education at the University of Toledo. He has particular interests in the relationships between society, school, and home. In addition to numerous professional journal articles and book chapters, Dr. Hughes is an author and editor of What We Still Don¿T Know about Teaching Race: How to Talk about It in the Classroom(editor) and the new book Black Hands In The Biscuits Not In The Classrooms: Unveiling Hope In A Struggle For Brown's Promise.

- Beth Johnson (MA, '03) finished her Ph.D. in advertising at the Univ of Georgia and is teaching at the Univ of Tennessee . In April
2006 she received a University of Georgia Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. "Beth's teaching scores were consistently among the highest in the College," said Jeff Springston, Grady's associate dean of research and graduate studies.
- Robert P. Johnson ('98) is an associate at Lewis & Hand, LLP, a
boutique law firm in Brooklyn's Dumbo enclave, where he specializes
primarily in trademark and Internet law, as well as litigation. He is
the proud father of his two year old son Benjamin.

- Yuko Kawai (MA, '01) is a doctoral student at the University of New Mexico, won a top paper award in the Asian/Pacific American Communication Studies Division for her paper, "Conceptualizing the Model Minority Myth: Colorblindness and Dialectics of theModel Minority and the Yellow Peril." at NCA in November 2003.

( M.A., '79) has joined Trial Behavior Consulting in Los Angeles
as a Senior Consultant, specializing nationally in courtroom persuasion,
mock trials, jury selection, witness preparation, case analysis,
community surveys, change of venue studies, damage assessments,
and CLE seminars. She has been a Communication professor at UC-Santa
Barbara.

(MA, '92) was recently promoted to director, media and public relations,
at MedImmune, Inc., one of the top ten largest biotechnology companies
in the world. While Jamie spends most of her waking hours working,
she also enjoys down time with her husband, Mike, son, Patrick (7),
two Labrador Retrievers and the same cat she's had since attending
Wake. They live in the Washington DC area.

- Kristen McCauliff (MA 2004) has
worked as an instructor and debate coach at Clarion University in
PA. She is pursing her Ph.D. at Georgia and was engaged this fall.
- Patrick McMullen (MA, '97) finished Law School in May at Northwestern University and works with the firm O'Melveny & Myers in Washington D.C. He is also finishing a Ph.D. in Communication at Northwestern.
- Rebecca
Meisenbach (MA) will be an assistant professor at Univ of Missouri in the fall of '06. She married in July. Last year Beccy won the John Grenzebach Awards for Outstanding Research in Philanthropy are named for the founder of John Grenzebach & Associates Inc., now Grenzebach Glier & Associates, a philanthropic management consulting firm, and are co-sponsored by the American Association of Fund-Raising Council Trust for Philanthropy. She received the award for her dissertation, "Framing Fund Raising: A Poststructuralist Analysis of Higher Education Fund Raisers' Work and Identities" (Purdue University, 2004). The work features interviews with higher education fund raisers and examines the ways that they frame negotiations with donors and others.
- Robin Merrell
('97) is an attorney at Pisgah Legal Services in Asheville. She
focuses on housing law and writes grants for the City of Asheville
to fund programs for the homeless. Her current project is a 10-year
Plan to End Homelessness in Asheville and Buncombe County. Robin
received her law degree from UNC in 2000.

Nocasian (MA) is currently a doctoral student at Florida State, won a top
paper award in the Human Communication and Technology Division at
NCA in November 2003, for her paper, "Constitituing Civic Engagement
in Cyberspace: Curierul de Seara as an Illustration of a Romanian
Virtual Community."
- Sinead O'Doherty ('04) was pictured on the front of the 2006 Response, a directory of full-time faith-based volunteer opportuniteisin the Catholic Network of Volunteer Service.
- Jenna Oschwald ('04) just started graduate school at NC State in Textile Apparel Technology and Management with a concentration in Apparel.

Painter ('02) works to save you time and money as FOX8's in Winston-Salem as the consumer reporter.
Before making her way back to North Carolina, Melissa worked as an anchor/ reporter at WBBH in Fort Myers, Florida, and in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where she earned an Associated Press Award for reporting. She was also an associate producer at WTVF in Nashville.

Platoon Leader, 215th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division..
He is in charge of a 55 person platoon responsible for Task Force
3-8 CAV support in Baghdad, Iraq; our Task Force is responsible
for the support and protection of the new Iraqi government and Paul
Bremer. He also support some Coalition Provincial Authority (CPA)
Offices in the Green Zone. His unit provides fuel, ammo, water,
food, building and barricade materials to a 900+ strong task force
and also provide convoy escorts to and from BIAP (Baghdad Int'l

('97) is working with a firm in Chicago. and has a new baby daughter.
- Brooke Pulitzer (MA) working in the President's Office at Harvard.
- Lori Archer Raible ('95) has just completed her Masters of Divinity at Union-PSCE at Charlotte. She and her husband Rob have a son Joe, who is nine months old (as of August, 2006). They live in Charlotte where she still runs recreationally and enjoys photography. Until she is ordained, she stays busy teaching and preaching in the Presbyterian Church USA.

- Danielle Schwartz ('05) is living in West Hartford and working for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut as an Associate Director in the Network Operations Department.
- Kathy Scott, former station manager
of WAKE TV won a regional Emmy for a series she did last year at
Asheville's WLOS-TV. Scott was visiting the New York set of "Good
Morning America" on Sept. 11, 2001 and found herself in the
middle of the biggest story of the new century when planes hit the
World Trade Towers. Scott reported for WLOS, then asked to return
to New York to do a series on Asheville-New York connections pegged
to the attacks. Additionally she was recently engaged to a chef
at the Grove Park Inn.
- Sam Settar ('00) has relocated to New Jersey, just outside NYC. He started with TAP Pharmaceuticals in August 2004 as a sales rep in Pittsburgh, PA and was promoted to Regional Sales Trainer in November of 2005. He and his wife, Carrie, celebrated their second anniversary on June 5th, 2006.

(regular summer debate faculty member) are in Ft. Hays Kansas where
Bill coaches a very successful debate program. They spend much time
with young William as well.

Group, a insurance and risk management firm.
- Elizabeth Thalhimer Smartt ('98) is in her 5th year running her own freelance corporate and product naming business...naming everything from dishwasher parts to frozen meals to consulting firms. She finished her Masters in English from VCU and is working on expanding her thesis into a book. She and her husband Ryan are expecting their first baby in February. They still live in Richmond, Virginia where their pug Rocky is still eating mulch and trying to convince them he's a person.

(MA, 89') is back in the debate coaching business at Orono HS in
Maine. He also works as Director of Project Mainestay at the University
of Maine-Orono. Project mainestay trains pre-service and in-service
educators who teach English as a second language (ESL) and bilingual
students in central and northern Maine. Shan's wife Sandy
Berkowitz (MA '89) teaches communication at the University.

Daniel Stern ('98) was a Project Greenlight 2 finalist a few years back, as well as a Sundance Screenwriting Lab finalist. Recently, he and his brother wrote the feature script, This is a Business, that Daniel produced. So far the film has played at Dances With Films in Los Angeles, the 1st Annual International Village D-Cinema (Digital Cinema) Film Festival in Lisbon, Portugal, and the St Louis Filmmakers Showcase. Right now Daniel and his brother Tom are writing and producing a few commercials for the Princeton Review in California while continuing to write scripts they plan to take into production.
- Ashley Quisenberry Stokes (MA) is asst professor in Connumination Studies at UNCC. She earned her Ph.D. at Univ of Georgia
- Adam Stone ('95) graduated from the NCSA School of Filmmaking with a degree in Cinematography in '99 and has shot and directed a number of commercials for clients including MTV2, Suntrust Bank, Comcast, Washington Redskins, Rheingold Beer, and Valvoline. He was Director of Photography on Great World of Sound and Shotgun Stories (both slated for Sundance 2007). His film work also includes 2nd Unit DP on George Washington (Berlin Film Festival Selection), All The Real Girls (Sony Picutes Classics - Sundance Selection), and Undertow (MGM - Toronto Film Festival Selection).
- Claire Strang ('00) married Jake Farver in Charleston, SC in March 2006. She is working at a start up company in Washington, DC that she's been with since day one, which has been both a difficult and exciting experience. She is Director of Operations for Clutch Legal Staffing.

- Kanke Tomohiro (MA '03) is a full time lecturer by Tokai University in Kanagawa. He teaches english related subjects and debate. He and Yoshi were married Dec. 10, 2005 in Tokyo.
- Eric Truett (MA '99) finished law school at Chicago is clerking for Judge Mark Filip in the Northern District of Illinois. He and his wife Sarah just welcomed daughter Ada Wallis Truett into their lives in March.
- Linda
(Hippler) Wastyn ,'84,
in addition to her job at St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa, and managing
her 2nd grader, Matthew's busy life, has started a Ph. D. program
in higher education with Illinois State University. Ron
Wastyn (MA) is department chair and golf coach at St. Ambrose.
- McClain Watson (MA, '99) an Iowa Ph.D. He is teaching at Texas Women College. He and his wife Jullian are kept busy

- David Williams
(Faculty '83-6) is Assoc. professor at Florida Atlantic University.
Among other things that keep him professionally busy, he co-edit
the international journal Controversia.
- Tycely Williams,
('97) is Director of Development at the D.C. Prisoners' Legal Services
Project in Washington DC. She is planning on graduate school in
Political communication next fall.
- Anita Woolley ('02) is working as an Associate for Tishman Construction in Las Vegas on Project CityCenter for MGM MIRAGE and just started graduate study at UNLV for a dual MBA and MS in Hotel Administration.
- Ben Wright (MA '00) is working as web editor with Atlanta Spirit, LLC.
They own the Atlanta
Thrashers (NHL), Hawks (NBA) and Philips Arena, where both teams play.
Ben is getting married in Sept.
