Commencement 2006

Class of 2006 graduates
Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner told the Class of 2006 to reject the cynicism of the media, tune out the background noise that masquerades as meaningful commentary, and instead, wrestle with complex issues. Nathan O. Hatch presided over his first Commencement as president.

Remarks to the Graduates
In his remarks to the graduates, President Nathan O. Hatch encouraged them to "relish the unknown, embrace the unexpected and welcome the joy of surprise."

Honorary degree recipients
Wake Forest awarded four honorary degrees during the Commencement ceremony.

Retiring faculty
Three retiring faculty members from the Reynolda Campus were recognized during Commencement.

Honors and Awards ceremony
Academic departments and the Calloway School of Business and Accountancy recognized undergraduates during the College Honors and Awards Ceremony on May 14. Winners of the two most prestigious awards, the Carlton P. West Phi Beta Kappa Award and the William C. and Ruth N. Archie Award were kept secret until the program.

Senior orations
Emily Leonhardt ('06), Andy Lobashevsky ('06) and Nemanja Savic ('06) presented senior orations at the Honors and Awards Ceremony on May 14.
