Description: All off-campus houses that are owned and operated by Wake Forest University are for full-time graduate students only. Each property is relatively large and usually consists of several bedrooms, kitchen, common areas, and shared bathrooms. Several of the houses have recently been remodeled.

Please keep in mind, however, that these properties are popular among international students and space is usually very limited. If you think that you would like to live in one of these houses, you are encouraged to reserve a room as early as possible. Rent is currently set at $490/month.

Description: This is also one of your basic large apartment complexes with all of the usual amenities. Unlike others, however, it is within walking distance to WFU (approximately a 10-15 minute walk). There is also a grocery store, restaurants, and several other shops and stores located nearby. Woods Road Area

Description: This is another one of your basic large apartment complexes with all of the usual features. Given its proximity to campus, it is popular among WFU students. Many international students have lived here in the past, and it is located relatively close to campus and a major shopping area.

Walking distance to campus?: I have had students who have walked to campus from this complex in the past, but please be advised that it is about a 20-30 minute walk or a 10-15 minute bike ride.
Car necessary?: If you don't mind walking, you can get by without one, but a car is recommended.

Description: An upscale complex that can be compared to the Crowne complexes in terms of amenities and facilities, but the rent is significantly cheaper, and the units seem to be a little bit larger in terms of square footage. The two-bedroom unit is very spacious and some units include a gas-burning fireplace that can be used to heat the apartment in the winter. The gas is included in the price of the rent. This complex also has a gated parking lot that is accessible by security code and security alarms installed in all units. Several former Wake international students currently live here, and they are happy with the complex. Best value for the money if you are looking for a place that is nicer than your average apartment complex. Located in the same area as The Trails and The Woods.

Description: A nice apartment complex that is in a very convenient place in terms of shopping and proximity to campus. compared to some of the other properties, it is a little more expensive, but it is in nice location, and many of the units overlook a small lake in the back of the property. It is also within walking distance of a shopping center that contains a large grocery store. A lot of WFU international students currently live here.

Walking distance to campus?: Yes, but you are in for a rather long walk (20-25 minutes)
Car necessary?: Like the Trails, a car is not necessary, but you will be doing quite a bit of walking. Distance not a problem with a bicycle.

Description: This is one of the two properties near campus that bills itself as a "luxury" complex. It is a very nice place to live, and a lot of WFU international students have lived here in the past, but it is rather expensive, and it is not really within walking distance of campus. If you have a car and a desire to live in one of the nicest apartments near campus, this might be the place for you.

Description: Bordering historic Bethabara Park, the Hunt Club is a very nice and peaceful apartment complex that is often overlooked by international students. Although not within walking distance of WFU, it is located just a very short drive from campus. One of the selling points of this complex is that it provides instant access to the walking/jogging trail that surrounds the Bethabara Park.

Apartment Complexes Located Away from Campus

Country Club Road Area

Description: The largest apartment complex in the area. It offers all of the amenities of the more expensive complexes, but this is one of the most economical places to live in Winston-Salem. The bedrooms in most of the units are located on the second floor (town-home style), so you don't have to worry about any noise from above. Two big swimming pools and four tennis courts on-site are also nice features of this complex. If you don't mind a short drive to campus, you might want to look into living in this complex.

Description: Located off of Country Club Road, this complex could be classified as upscale, but the rental rates are relatively affordable. Most residents of this complex are young professionals, and it is equipped with a very nice pool, exercise facility, and tennis court. Each apartment has a very nice sunroom. Like its other Country Club counterparts, it is very convenient to a host of different shopping centers and grocery stores. Several international students are currently living here.
