The Chemistry Department has a long tradition of strength in undergraduate instruction, due to the talent and dedication of faculty members, research opportunities for undergraduates, interaction with the American Chemical Society (ACS, the professional society for chemists), and the talented students attracted to the chemistry major. Students taking the ACS standardized exam in analytical chemistry consistently score over the 60th percentile nationally, and organic chemistry students have averaged over the 75th percentile on a national final in recent years. The ACS Committee on Professional Training (CPT) monitors the quality of undergraduate chemistry programs, and certifies majors graduating from approved programs. Wake Forest University has offered an ACS certified degree since 1960.
