The Chemistry Major
The Department graduates an average of 25 majors per year, of whom about half go on to graduate or professional schools. Recent majors include five NSF Pre-doctoral Fellows, an Honorable mention NSF Pre-doctoral Fellow candidate, a Rhodes Scholar and a Rhodes Scholar National Finalist. Two students have later won ACS Organic Division Fellowships, three have won ACS travel awards, seven have won awards for their presentations at the N.C. Academy of Science, three won Glaxo-Wellcome Undergraduate Fellowships, and another won the national research award of Iota Sigma Pi. In 2000 and 2004, a student received the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and another student won the Eastern Analytical Symposium Student Award.
