The Very Reverend and Right Honourable George, Lord Carey of Clifton, Privy Counsellor, was the 103rd Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991 to 2002. A graduate of King's College, London, he worked as a parish priest, was Principal of Trinity College, Bristol, and served as Bishop of Bath and Wells before his elevation to the position of Archbishop of Canterbury, the Primate of all England and the symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion. He is author of numerous articles and books, including The Church in the Marketplace and his memoir, Know the Truth. His visit to Winston-Salem is in cooperation with St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
