Promoting Your Organization on Campus
Listed below are some strategies that have proven to be successful in promoting an organization to our students:
- Internships - Many organizations are now using internships
as a way to get an advance look at students. Several hundred Wake
Forest students participate in these programs each year. Contact Patrick
Sullivan for information.
- Career Fest/Job & Internship Connection -
The Office of Career Services sponsors "Career Fest" in
September and "Job & Internship Connection" in January
to expose students to the variety of career options available in
the current job market. Representatives from business, government,
and nonprofit agencies attend the fairs and distribute information
to students through displays, brochures, and personal conversations.
Contact Dana Hutchens for
more information.
- Career Development Programs -
Programs are held on a regular basis to give students insight into
various careers. These programs last for about one hour and are
attended by groups varying in number. Contact Laurie Cronin for information on these programs.
- Corporate Sponsorship of Programs/Events - The Office of
Career Services can offset expenses associated with student programs/events
through corporate financial contributions. The contributing organization's
name is included in event advertising, and its representatives may
choose to attend the event. Contact Carolyn
Couch for more information.
- Mock Interviews - Each fall, Career Services invites business
and industry representatives to campus to conduct practice interviews
with seniors. Many find that this encounter allows them to educate
students about their organization and its opportunities. Contact
Dana Hutchens for more information.
- Speakers for Campus Organizations - Student organizations
occasionally have a need for speakers. A list of organizations is
available from our office and you should contact the organization
directly to express an interest in volunteering. Contact
Dana Hutchens for more information.
- Meetings with Faculty and Career Services Staff - Companies
new to campus may wish to meet with Career Services staff and faculty
members to learn details of the WFU curriculum and how best to promote
their company to specific majors. Contact Dana
Hutchens for more information.
- Presentations/Information Sessions - Some employers host
a meeting before their interview date to present information about
their company. Contact Dana
Hutchens to arrange a meeting for this purpose.
- Old Gold and Black - The weekly student newspaper provides
an opportunity to advertise a company visit or presentation. Call
(336) 758-5280 for advertising information and costs.
- Pre-Screening for On-Campus Interviews - Pre-screening
increases the prospects of attracting a full schedule of candidates
and allows the company an opportunity to review resumes prior to
a campus visit.
- Job Postings/Resume Referrals - Companies who are not able
to conduct on-campus interviews may post job openings. Qualified
students will submit resumes until a posted deadline, after which,
the resumes will be made available to the company. The company may
then contact the students directly or enlist our help in setting
up interviews on campus. Contact Dana
Hutchens to discuss this option.
